NEW YORK (AP) — TikTok confirmed on Tuesday that it has taken measures to prevent a cyberattack on high-profile accounts, including one belonging to CNN.
“Our security team was recently alerted to malicious actors targeting CNN’s TikTok account,” said TikTok spokesperson Jason Grosse in a statement. TikTok has been collaborating with CNN to restore access to the account and implement additional security measures to protect it, Grosse explained.
“We are committed to upholding the integrity of the platform and will continue to monitor for any further unauthorized activity,” Grosse added.
CNN did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
TikTok stated that the attack occurred through the platform's direct messaging feature, but did not provide details about the nature of the breach. Grosse mentioned that TikTok is still investigating the “potential exploit” and assisting affected account owners in regaining access.
TikTok did not disclose the identities of the other affected accounts, except for mentioning that the account of socialite and reality TV star Paris Hilton was targeted but not compromised.
